The Chinese announced that trillion dollar loan program for Africa, so the media decided to check in on the loans China has already made. The media is already drawing the conclusion that it is slavery renewed. Despite being about natural resources, this bit is inserted,
"History is repeating itself," says Shaba, the journalist and cultural activist. "In the past, ivory and slaves were exported through Bagamayo. Today, it's natural resources."
Slaves once dubbed this town Bagamayo, which means "throw your heart away." Anyone who had not managed to escape the slave traders en route to the coast was lost by the time they reached Bagamayo.
Slavery and this anecdote on a town's name is priming you for the later comments on the new colonialism, the unequal marriage, growth over freedom and a new division of Africa. There are also comments from Africans on how this is exploitation and lack of concern for the millions of people left in poverty and without basic freedoms. The Chinese set the $1 trillion in loans to Africa announcement months after stating they do not care how nations operate and that we should welcome different forms of government. Message: we don't care what you do in your borders, just give us the loot. Sorry Africa, but if you cannot get your act together, someone else will come in and
take maximize your resources. This entire article is a smear job by a Western media outlet on present and future Chinese investment in Africa because the West knows it has probably already lost the dark continent in the great game of resources. This is also a reminder that we Westerners abused them in the past and now have abandoned them to the Chinese.
