Social Matter - Hidden History: When The State Dept Tried To End Vietnam In ’63

New essay is up at Social Matter. I write on how State almost ended decades of conflict in Vietnam and handed the nation to the communists twelve years before they ended up doing so. The essay goes over the Blue Empire vs Red Empire proxy warfare. Decolonization was a process that academia and the media skip over because of all of the horrendous bloodshed by certain former colonies. The added kicker is how some former colonies have found success while others have not, yet colonialism gets blamed for one group's failures but not the other's success.

fwiw the section on post-colonial states in Paul Johnson's Modern Times is a real eye-opener on recent history that rarely gets a mainstream airing
