Give Up Porn

A reader asked me why I moderate comments if I don't get many. I have a tablet so moderating is quick, I would like to keep the place civil so no doxxing or whatnot, and I occasionally write about porn. When you write about porn, you get bad auto-comments. I like to delete those so it does not mess with any true commenting. Nick B. Steves wondered why I knew so much a bit about the sex industry, but it's part of my wide set of email correspondence. I view modern porn with its ubiquity and ease of creation as a weird mirror on modern society. Not just sex, and sexual relations but gender relations, race relations and inter-generational relationships. It is horrifying to consider. I am looking forward to the Last Psychiatrist's book on porn if it ever happens. Is the Last Psych alive? On topic, the more I learned about the industry, the more I heard performer stories, the more disgusted by the entire industry I became. I gave it up. Check those studies Mangan has been tweeting recently and included in his great post on porn addiction, you will be better for it.

Pulling the porn plug will make everyone better for it, not just you. You can find the forums where porn performers chat amongst one another, and many have individual websites. Some are eager to talk, some dislike the portrayal of the business in the media (attacks and flattering essays) and some dislike what has happened to the industry. It is a sleazy industry from top to bottom from the slimeballs who own studios to the suitcase pimp/boyfriends who act as a girl's agent to the simple performers themselves. Why do you think they are covered in tattoos now? They hate themselves and kill their old identity. The final driver or pulse though is you the consumer. You are out there watching. Everything is made with you in mind.

The main act of every pronographic scene is to take a cute, normal looking girl and send her into a degrading set up with a man of lower social status. This sends several messages all demoralizing to any viewer of all women being sluts, sex should be easy to come by but it isn't for you the viewer, and any man, no matter the status (like you the viewer), can get any woman he desires and quench her insatiable desires with his prowess. For every fan excited by a new depravity by one performer, there is one turned off. The industry is plumbing the depths of filth to try to keep fans. Viewers forget these actors are all whores. All paid for both male and female for your viewing pleasure. Listen to The Iron Pill. With the viewing pleasure comes a bit of damage to your soul. It is not just the performer that is corrupted, but you.

I gave it up. It was Lent 2014. No videos, no tube sites, nothing to put money in their pockets. It made writing about Belle Knox funny since I could not watch the scenes, but that's been the most read thing I have ever written here. It is all the same though, and I could have written it blindfolded. "Degrade young girl." If I check anything now it is someone emailing me about a ridiculous plastic surgery or tattoo a woman had done or something new the producers and directors are pushing. One such thing was a cute Lebanese American girl who debuted this fall. She's Lebanese and Christian (her Instagram), but that did not stop the production company from immediately shooting a scene with her and another woman wearing hijabs to perform a male-female-female scene. If Benghazi happened over a Youtube video, can we tell ISIS about this one and set the Middle East aflame? Maybe just the San Fernando Valley? Weird, Catholic schoolgirls gone wild is a decades old pron cliche, Asian and black women often play to stereotypes, Hispanics get put in maid outfits, and now a Lebanese girls in a hijab... but I have never seen Rachel Silverstein the Horny Hasidic Housewife. Mysteries. This industry will probably never go away, but it can shrink. You don't have to contribute to it. Do your brain a favor. Walk away.

Spot on.

I agree wholeheartedly and did that almost a year ago and haven’t looked back. Any time I’ve looked up pornography since was underwhelming. For instance that Delaware Pageant chick who fucked on camera turned out to be rubbish. Jumping across the video didn’t reveal much of anything. If I recall, the guy was making most of the noise while the girl just silently took it. LAME. The degradation angle is true. Lots of stuff on the outer-skirts of fetishism is repulsive to think about from just reading/looking at the thumbnails. Tap into your most repulsive fantasies! Why permit them any influence in the first place?

New porn seems weird in and of itself anyway. Clean, full-HD vids. Sterile background and hairless actors. Porn trailers with Dub Step now as music. That stupid over use of oil has always been embarrassing. Just seems different from the content put out only a few years ago and now oddly unappealing.

In addition to video, I might almost recommend pics. Just depends. A blog site or tumblr w/some hotties, OK. But then you got places like Reddit. Gigantic porn stash of jpegs & gifs. Page after page of new real naked girls each week and you can talk to them! That can’t be good.

There's plenty of good amateur porn that doesn't fit those criteria. Someone having sex with an attractive girlfriend, who isn't getting paid or degraded. They like filming themselves and viewers like watching. Win-win.

Bully for you, SOBL. I read Legs McNeil's THE OTHER HOLLYWOOD January 2014 and have given up hardcore porn as well. Of course, I was aware how scummy the industry is, but rationalized it with "If I'm not paying for it, who cares?" But the book really exposed the depths of its scumminess of it all. The dirtbags will tell you how great the industry is, then tell you how drugged out they were, how so and so was knowingly passing AIDS, etc. And they all think they're some godsend SJW to boot. Annie Sprinkle and Sharon Mitchell are the worst.

I have however, not stopped viewing nude PLAYBOYish pics. I don't know if that's even considered porn these days.

Porn is an opiate for many a man. Without it, both rape and suicide rates would increase. Talking about quitting porn is useless, just like religious teachings regarding masturbation, which is like an opiate itself. If you don't want teenagers to watch porn and masturbate, bring back the Patriarchy in full force, and get them married YOUNG (no, not at 22. More like 12). It is natural for teenagers to fuck and to look for sexual outlets. Recall that heterosexual men rape one another in jail. Is it because they are "morally corrupt", or is it because they live in an artificial environment? (or both?) The solution has to be radical to work, otherwise you're just a "let's go back to the 60's" type of Conservative, in which case, good luck.

Well, there's your problem, right there.

What exactly changed and when did it happen? Hasn't it always been a dirty business?

I beg to disagree, going cold turkey on anything is not good, while it won't drop you like sudden alcohol withdrawal, it ain't good either.

Why not just switch it up, self impose a few basic porn watching rules, like no interracial, not even Asians, no big studios, only amateur husband-wife sites... and most important pay for it! Jerk with your wallet! :).

Doesn't it change when you pay the performer directly, the nice lady that insults me over her webcam in a sexy British accent told me she keeps most of it, and the only one being degraded is me!

I mean there are some very sexual women who are really into it, sometimes i want to scream RUN at the male performer because i know that cougar will take him down, it's amazing.

Mike - Yes it has always been sleazy but it has gone nuts since 2000 with degeneracy and with the money leaving the industry, the producers are now getting bigger names to do worse stuff for less $. Another weird twist, in the '90s an "anal" scene might be 1-3 minutes on camera. Now those scenes may be an entire 20 minute session. There are women needing breaks because of prolapsing and the need for healing.

Last anon - I didn't go cold turkey. I was cutting back before cutting it off. I still view photo sets of glamour models, but I'm keeping my use to a minimum.

I thought the facialabuse video with that half-Jew coed in it was remarkably honest in its commentary. How can pornographers be that honest and sluts don't walk away? I chalk it up to feminist indoctrination.

Would rape increase? It's very hard to get away with rape these days, there's DNA, everyone carries a locator device at all times and if you don' you are automatically suspected of being up to no good. People know of those things and know most crime is a loser's game.

Perhaps sexual violence would increase slightly.

As to an increase in suicide, would that be a bad thing? It's not like humanity is short on manpower, or that this society of ours is a good place to live.

However like almost everything hereabouts, you can't go there from here, and porn's here to stay.

It'd be good though if people were aware of the risks, and they generally aren'. Though it's getting better. 15 years ago only earnest religious types were saying porn is dangerous, and they tended to say the same thing about yoga... :-(

As an addict, I have to recommend giving up porn. Somehow it gives me slightly more energy, not to mention way more motivation to talk to people in general. Wish I could last more than a couple of months at a stretch.

It's not just about starving the worst elements of the industry of your money. As priorities go that's a distant second. The most important thing is to stop messing up your brain chemistry and sexual psychology (and, if you're religiously inclined, damaging your soul) with artificial hyper-stimulation. It's no different from binging on McDonald's cheeseburgers and Doritos. If you have a real partner then focus your sexual attention on her. If you don't have one then you'll find you have a lot more motivation to go get one (and you'll become more energetic and confident) if you quit beating off to pixels on a screen like a basement-dweller.

"Porn is an opiate for many a man. Without it, both rape and suicide rates would increase. Talking about quitting porn is useless, just like religious teachings regarding masturbation, which is like an opiate itself."

Excuses and rationalizations. The vast majority of civilized men in history have lived without porn, there's no reason you can't do the same. It's actually not that hard to live without jerking off either (and contrary to popular myth, it's not bad for you to abstain), but if you do at least give your imagination a workout and get it over with quickly.

"going cold turkey is not good"

Worked great for me. It was trying to set limits and "this far but no farther" that was impossible to maintain.

"most important pay for it!"

Seriously? If you do use porn then the least you can do is NOT to pay for it. Suck money out of the industry and maybe you can help protect a few girls from getting drawn into it. Paying amateurs still corrupts both you and them, you're not doing anyone any favors that way.

"But some girls are into it!"

I wouldn't take those claims at face value, they are trying to sell you a product. Even if it were true it's like giving a homeless guy $5 to go buy drugs with. You're not helping him, you're just keeping him enslaved to his appetites and funding sleazy pushers.

Sobl what's your source on that one, any further info can you put some light on?

Last anon - that bit on anal is just look at the tapes. Very few women did it and if they did it was a short bit at the end before the pop shot.

The anal prolapse porn is something new. Its disgusting.

You say it's a mirror to society, therefore we shouldn't look. Sounds like hiding your head in the sand. More charitably, focusing on other things, but your claims to know some higher truth are empty and fraudulent. Nothing more sick and degraded than the man who wants to save whores

Son of Brock Landers said...

Save the whores? No, they make their choice to do this horrible work. Thanks for the criticism.
