Comment on "Drive"

In the movie "Drive", there is a nice courtship of the single mom by the lead. They are both attractive, young, healthy people obviously interested in one another. There is sexual tension and they keep it friendly and non-physical. The woman is married (and a mother) but her husband is in jail. The only way Hollywood could make a movie where the audience would belieev why two attractive people would not have sex within the first 2 meetings is by making her married, a mother and with an convict for a husband. That is how easy sex has become for people in the US today.

I really enjoyed "Drive," so much so that I bought the original novel. It was one of those cases where the movie was a significant improvement on the book, like "Forrest Gump" or "Godfather." Reading "Drive" you could understand how Hollywood would think, "There's a good movie in here"--the basic idea was intriguing. There was no character development, but the actors supplied that and the casting for the movie was inspired.

"Driven," the sequel to "Drive," is to the first like "Death Wish 4" was to "Death Wish." The Driver just goes around killing hit men and gangsters with ease, sometimes with one punch to the neck, and makes it seem like the easiest thing in the world to do.

BTW, great blog, I just found it through isteve.

Thank you for commenting. Cruise around. I dont post as often as I did pre-fatherhood.

My wife and I both loved the film and we have different action tastes. Gosling was great. The romance felt sweet and organic. How often have people been in a 'i cant but i want to' situation. I'm also a sucker for low end mob stories.
